Happy New Year to you all!
2023 was unfortunately not the best year! In my household, we have been looking forward to the new year with great anticipation. Without getting into too many details, let's just say that 2024 is very much welcomed!
Don't you think that dried orange slices are so beautiful? The smell is so fresh and sweet, I can't get enough! This Christmas I stuck metal hooks in each dried slice and hung them on my tree. Not a novel idea in most parts by any means, but it was for me a lovely rekindled memory from my childhood. I have found that when you strategically place each orange ornament in front of a tree light (or a window during the day), the result is an almost stained-glass effect when you turn the main lights off and the tree lights on. I love it. It just makes the tree look even more beautiful.
These ornaments are also obviously plastic-free (plastic-free being somewhat of a theme with this whole soap business endeavor as well), since they're just oranges and a metal hook stuck into them. Anyone can make them by drying them on the lowest setting in an oven, or in a dehydrator, or on a flat surface in a dry area. Just make sure that if the slices are out in the open, that they are away from any animal or other critter that may try to eat or steal them.
I have found that doing this decorating activity definitely boosted my mood. Once they were ready, my son helped me hang them up on the tree and we both admired their beauty. I will do more of this type of thing more often with my family. Patience is something with which I have always struggled, so it was fun to peek at the oranges while they were drying to see if they were done- I couldn't resist!
*Small steps and everyday is a new beginning.*
